Associate Professor Burak Şakir Şeker is a faculty member at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University. He is also a retired Navy Lieutenant and industrial engineer. Previously, he worked as a post-doc researcher and guest lecturer at World Maritime University (WMU) in Sweden, which is a United Nations (UN) university. Before joining WMU, he served in the Turkish Naval Forces and Turkish Armed Forces HQ in various capacities, including as an operation officer, project officer, and commander. 

He represented the Turkish Delegation for the Maritime Security Working Group at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee in London, UK, and received the “United Nations Staff Officer Certificate (Peacebuilding Process/Peacekeeping Operations)” from the Swedish Armed Forces. Additionally, he was invited by the NATO Multinational Maritime Security Centre of Excellence (MARSEC COE) and Sciences Po Grenoble – Université Grenoble Alpes in France to deliver courses on various topics related to International Relations. 

He has edited or authored 13 books and 53 articles in refereed journals or international publishers, focusing on topics such as “Global Maritime Geopolitics”, Middle East and Africa, Cyber Environment and International Politics, Space Environment and Security, Global Actors and Great Power Competition, Comparative Politics and Political Regimes, and Refugees and International Problems.
